Set up two-factor authentication (2FA) in Discord using an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password).

1. Open User Settings:

• Desktop / Web: Click the User Settings gear icon in the bottom-left corner next to your avatar and username.

• Mobile: Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner, then tap the Gear icon in the top-right corner.

• Verification: You should see the main Settings menu open.

2. Navigate to Password & Security:

• Desktop / Web: Select Account from the left-hand sidebar.

• Mobile: Select Account from the menu list.

• Scroll down until you see the Multi-Factor Authentication section.

3. Initiate 2FA Setup:

• Click or tap the button labeled Enable Authenticator App (or Enable Two-Factor Auth), then enter your Discord account password when prompted.

• Verification: A popup modal will appear displaying a QR code and an alphanumeric manual entry key.

4. Link Authenticator App:

• Open your authenticator app on your mobile device, add a new account, and scan the QR code displayed on the screen (or copy and paste the manual key into your app).

• Verification: Your authenticator app will generate a rolling 6-digit verification code labeled for Discord.

5. Confirm and Activate:

• Enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app into the field in Discord and confirm.

• Verification: Discord will display a confirmation message indicating 2FA is active, along with a prompt to download or view your backup codes.

6. Critical: Save Backup Codes Immediately

Scroll down to Backup Codes and immediately download or copy the provided Backup Codes and store them in a secure password manager. If access to the authenticator device is lost, Discord support cannot bypass or reset 2FA without these backup codes.
